CRUISING INTO THE UNKNOWN: TIPS & TRICKS FOR YOUR FIRST CRUISE

Updated: Feb 23, 2023

Taking your first cruise can be an incredibly exciting experience. But it can also be quite daunting, especially if you aren't sure what to expect. That's why it's important to work with a travel professional who knows cruising inside and out. They’ll plan ahead to ensure that your first cruise is as enjoyable as possible.

Here are some tips and tricks that will help make your first cruise go smoothly.

Communication is Key!

Way before you set sail, you need to set up clear communication with your travel advisor. Being open about your travel style, your likes/dislikes, dining preferences, and even what kind of bedroom you sleep in at home, gives travel professionals an idea of what cruise line to pair you with, and what itinerary or ship might be best. Family cruising? We can find a cruise for that! Prefer not to see anyone under the age of 18? No worries - there are cruise lines for that, too!

Research Your Destination

Before you set sail, make sure you do your research on the destination you're visiting. Read up on the history of the place, check out attractions that are worth seeing, and look into any special events or festivals that may be taking place during the time of your visit. Better yet, work with a professional travel advisor, who can give you the best advice on the must-see sites and attractions at each port!

Pack Strategically

When packing for a cruise, it's important to keep in mind that space is limited onboard. To maximize what space you have, pack items in vacuum-sealed bags or lightweight suitcases with wheels so they're easy to move around. Make sure all liquids are in containers no larger than 3 ounces and double-check with airline guidelines before bringing any potentially hazardous items on board (such as lighters or aerosol cans).

Bring Entertainment Options

Cruises usually provide plenty of entertainment options onboard - live shows, movie screenings, and more - but there may be times when you want something else to do. Make sure to bring books, magazines, games (for both solo play or group play), and other activities like puzzles or coloring books so you always have something fun to do while onboard the ship. And if possible, consider downloading digital versions of these entertainment options instead of carrying physical copies; this will save valuable luggage space!

With these tips and tricks in mind, you'll be ready for a smooth sailing experience on your first cruise! Being prepared ahead of time will take much of the stress out of planning for an unfamiliar experience like cruising – and it will make sure that all you need to worry about when setting sail is having fun!
