If you dream of beaches with super soft sand and crystal-clear water, you are going to love the destination I'm highlighting today: The US Virgin Islands. The USVI are a group of Caribbean islands, consisting of Saint Croix, Saint Thomas, and Saint John, which are an unincorporated territory of the United States. Here's the great news - there's no passport required for most U.S. citizens!
Each year, the USVI averages five beaches on the "World's Best Beaches" list. Here are a few of my favorites:
1. Magens Bay
If you’ve ever seen a pretty tropical panorama, chances are it’s Magens Bay! This is one of the most photographed destinations in the Caribbean. Once you see it, you’ll understand, because you won’t want to take your eyes off the beautiful hues below! Located on the north end of St. Thomas, Magens Bay is a tropical paradise offering stunning beaches, gorgeous native trees, and unmatched recreational activities.
2. Honeymoon Beach
Honeymoon Beach is located within the Virgin Islands National Park on the island of St. John. This stunning beach has white, powdery sand with easy, shallow water access. There are plenty of native trees to provide shade under a rented beach chair. If you're into water sports, there are stand-up paddle boards and snorkel gear available to rent.
3. Cinnamon Bay
Located deep within the National Park on St. John, this beach has it all! Cinnamon Bay is the island's longest beach, with shallow water entry, and plenty of room. It's also got plenty of services, like public restrooms and showers, food services, and water sports rental. If snorkeling is your passion, there's a large reef off the beach, and even the wreckage of a small plane to explore.
4. Maho Bay
This one is a favorite of locals, so you know it’s really special! Also located in St. John, Maho Bay is great for lazy beach days or travelers with little kids. Parents will appreciate a sandy bottom that extends out about 20 yards – making it a perfect beach to wade, swim, or just build sandcastles.
5. Trunk Bay
This one is essentially in a class of its own! Trunk Bay is most often on the world’s best beaches list, more than any of the others. The striking contrast of powder-white sand against the turquoise waters, and emerald green foliage is almost surreal. There is so much to do here as well! Not only is the beach expansive, but visitors can hike, snorkel, swim, and enjoy other various water sports on site. There's even an underwater snorkeling trail!
Ready to get your beach on? Then you need to head to the USVI! With some of the most incredible beaches in the world, you may just find yourself going back time and time again.
